Do the Darndest Daily

Hello friends!

Welcome to my new blog. Have you done something crazy today? Something silly or spontaneous? Have you ventured to be bold and risqué or found quiet elegance in a more conservative mood? Have you pampered yourself, perhaps stopping not once, but twice today to purchase an oversized iced vanilla latte? I digress. Or confess?

From a Recent Trip to Chicago Botanic Gardens
I've created this blog with the intention of sharing my personal view of the world with you, on the day to day. What's it to me? Why should I care what genius or altogether dumb-ass decisions Emily makes everyday? Well, maybe to you it is nothing! Maybe this blog is purely for self-indulgence, self-interest, ego– a need to preserve the precious moments of my days so I can look back on them and think– I've lived.

Journaling has been a passion of mine since 1998. I have diaries dating all the way to elementary school and I continue writing to this day. Though my rampant thoughts, emotions and ideas are thus recorded in ink, today I thought it might be interesting to open my little world to the public, thus exposing myself to one and all (no, I'm not a flasher) as honestly and openly as possible, which I believe might bring with it some catharsis. Let's not kid ourselves, in a society that wants the young to succeed but counts success mainly through material possession and social prowess, WHICH I might add is an impossible joke considering the job market, we could all use a little therapy. But I count my blessings.

Perhaps you'll relate to my wanderings, founderings and triumphs here. If so, I hope you can laugh along with me. Look for my photos, poems and for a special treat- excerpts from my early childhood diaries. Seriously you guys, those are not to be missed. What a gem the mind of a middle-schooler is, full of hope and blind faith, hormones and dramas, excitements over the tiniest things... Oh God. Did I mention braces? Maybe you'll get to hear about the time my face got stuck to the carpet. Make that times. Sheer joy.

My dad is always saying "Carpe Diem" (Seize the Day!) The word "Seize" carries a note of violence about it, and when I want to make the most of a day I follow the path of least resistance. But maybe that's just me. I know that to follow my happiness I must do three things: Laugh, cry, and do the darndest (things) daily.
